Good on him. Professors that don't allow laptops/tablets aren't open minded enough to allow students to retain knowledge in the way that best suits the student's needs.

Brilliant move, although why would you even use a laptop to note math. Even with software that can translate scribbles to words, it rarely does a good job for advanced symbols.
