Key is the alignment. India as a democracy doesn't fit BRICKS, but it doesn't seem to share the same values as the West either. In my opinion the more they focus on BRICKS the more restriction on access to Western data must be enforced. If they aim to create with that framework an Indian Data Silos, that's great, but they must ensure what they have generates enough value to attract investors.

Indias insistence on letting the government access any Indian user data stored in the company has hindered a few notable social media companies from employing within India. Its a smart rule but it has consequences the people should be aware of. Sometimes smart rules can be sacrificed for economic progress, like remewable energy vs cheaper coal energy
