My AGV FAILED! After RF 1100, RF 1200 and K6 - ENTER RF 1400 | Shoei vs AGV Experience v1722

Much sad, not glad. My experience with the AGV K6 was not the best and interaction with the warranty team only soured the waters further. The only POSSIBLE explanation that could be is that someone dropped my helmet while I was not looking. AGV suggested that the crack is due to an improper cheek pad install or perhaps a communication device install, or a crash. None of this has happened. With only 1 year warranty I'm realizing that AGV is a bit of a joke compared to the rest of the market. Waiting to hear what kind of discount they will offer on a new lid - guessing a EPIC 10% - LOL. Perhaps it's because I bought a cheap AGV and not the fancy fancy but I have had a few helmets and have never seen a failure that bad. I've even dropped helmets and none of them failed like so. Bizzare. So, after only 2.5 years the K6 has to be retired aka throwin into trash and in comes Shoei RF1400 - the helmet I should have bought to begin with instead of falling in love with Nardo grey and the way italian flag logo pops off. Anyway, I think that is enough shade. I just hope RF1400 treats me good. Thank you for all for the love - ride safe - let me hear what helmet you are rockin in the comments below.

Thanks, ordered my RF-1400 Accolade today, just saw your review and it made me feel good about my purchase.

Same helmet as me. Great taste! I have videos of it on my channel as well. The only negative I can say is the transition visor for it is an extra $200. I'm happy you decided to share the truth about agv. They owe you a free replacement and apology. I'm surprised Union Garage hasn't stepped up this replace this for you either. They typically are top notch even after the shop move.

Yup I’m a shoei guy myself. I’ve got the special edition RF-1200 Brigand. It’s about time to replace it but I’ve never found a cooler helmet.
Looking forward to videos with the new helmet!

Scary with that crack in your AGV. I will check inside my helmet for cracks. I do love that nardo grey. But the matt black Shoei also looks great

I just bought an Arai regent X a couple of months ago and coming from a Scorpion it’s a way better built helmet and quiet. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s not very aerodynamic at all. Highway speeds the wind pushes my head backwards and is very uncomfortable where as my Scorpion did not do that at all but was very loud. The Arai is very well made and comfortable to wear but I probably should of went with the Shoei RF1400 that I was initially looking at.

I have a K6-S with an add-on chin mount and Cardo comms. Replaced an old ICON Alliance. I had originally preordered a KLIM TK1200, but the size/color I wanted was out of stock for close to a year, which was the whole riding season here in the midwest.

I like the AGV so far. Light as a feather, dons/doffs easily, good airflow, wide field of view. Negatives--visor fogs easily when down/locked, replacement visors are $125+, and one of my cheekpads keeps coming unsnapped. Nothing major. I may warranty the cheekpad thing if it persists.

I will say that IMHO their US Corporate office (AGV is a Chinese brand) is likely nothing more than a distribution center. I called them a few weeks after purchase, asking if I could order two spare helmet bags, and was told no. And they seemed very confused about it. I have a feeling that if my helmet had not shipped with a bag they would have totally freaked out. They would have had to have warranty claimed it or something. No idea.

Glad to have found your video. I will definitely try a Shoei next time around.

Wow. Thank you for this. I was going back and forth btwn Shoei and the AGV. Made my decision easy and never any regrets.

Very (shockingly) informative, thank you. Love my nardo grey Arai with dark visor, but you can't go wrong with Shoei. May try Shoei next time, parts seem to be easier to get than Arai and there are so many options. Cheers

Hi....did U ever do a review of this RF 1400? I searched your back videos and missed it if you did. Did it turn out to be substantially quieter than the RF 1200 and AGV K6? I have a RF-SR (jet roar loud) and a K6 which initially was substantially quieter but now seems pretty loud. Recently bought an Arai Concept XE which is unbearably loud. Maybe my Schuberth C3 Pro spoiled me for quiet but that helmet has close to zero ventilation which makes it stifling in PA summer heat and humidity. I've been considering a RF 1400. Yeah I do wear earplugs but helmet/wind noise is still a major issue depending on helmet.

Hi there.
I also once bought an agv. A carbon one really light ax9 carbon I believe is the model. It also disappointed me with its build quality. It was falling apart after a year of use and of course I never dropped it.It felt cheap in every piece of it, shell, visor, chin strap (which was the first thing that fell apart). An hjc that I had the same time and cost 1/3 of the price was way better. Then I bought the shoei nxr of rf1200 for you and it served me really well for 4 years of daily commute and traveling once or twice a year. I still use it as commuter but soon I’ll stop as the interior is in really bad shape and I decided to renew my helmet with the nxr2 or rf1400 for you. So far I am really satisfied also with the new one and I’m thinking to buy the transition shield as it will make a huge difference to me in sunny Greece I live. Long story short with shoei you get what you pay and so do you with hjc. With agv I doubt so. When I see someone wearing an agv nowadays I feel sorry for him 🤷🏻‍♂️

You can't miss that crack in the helmet that's shocking it's a good job you didn't have a accident or a bad fall 🤔

Great vid! I’m currently in between the two mainly because of airflow. Would love to see a long term review /comparison after having used both for several months!

My AGV does not have cutouts for wearing glasses. I can only use it with contact lenses on.

I think you must have just gotten a bad k6. I have had three k6 helmets. One of them is retired after it saved my noggin in a crash last summer where it hit the ground, and the eps is still fully intact inside even after the crash. And the other two of them are also fully intact inside. I wear them daily as my primary helmet for daily commuting.

I ordered a k6 to my local cyclegear because of their current winter sale. Hoping this was just a defect on yours as I’ve seen mostly rave reviews on it. I’ll be sure to inspect it thoroughly and will return if I’m not satisfied. I was debating on the k6 or rf1400 but when this sale came up the wider price gap ultimately made my decision at this time

Spot on. Good video, information and your honestly on it matters. Interestingly, I came from a Shoei 1200 to an Arai Defiant-X in 2020 and it's fantastic FWIW. One of my best friends rides in a Shoei 1400 and digs it.

i dont own any agv or aria but i have many other including 5 Shoei helmets. It's hard to beat the shoei, the Scorpion line that cost about 1/2 has some very similar helmets in comfort and sound. I'm pretty convinced that if you have a shoei helmet, sidi boots, and some mid-high end AS gloves your about as solid as you can get on your extremities. Cheers
