Hey there,

I just watched your video, and it's great to see you unboxing and testing the TP-Link TL-SG108E switch. I appreciate your thorough review and the time you took to show us the details.

I'm really interested in the VLAN configuration options you mentioned, as well as the loopback prevention feature. It would be awesome if you could make a dedicated video in the future to dive deeper into these features and how to use them effectively.

Also, about the cable testing feature, it's a bit disappointing that it didn't detect a damaged cable. It's good to know its limitations.

Looking forward to more of your videos! Keep up the good work. 😊

Correction: It's not a cheap prodct. It's an affordable product.

9:35 I think this cable test only tells you totally open cable only. You can use it to measure length of a cable on loop by connecting just one end to the switch but other than that, not really important feature because if your cable is simply missing some wires (e.g. instead of 8 wires as expected, you only have 6 intact wires) the switch will autonegotiate 100 Mbps connection instead of reporting a cable fault.

I guess that the feature could also detect fault in case there are only 3 or less wires intact in a cable because even 10 Mbps connection requires 4 wires to work.

Be careful with TP-Link switches and access points. Some models don't handle VLANs properly.

BTW, I also have one of those Cisco switches here.

I thought Loop Prevention had something to do with Spanning Tree Protocol's loopback prevention (logical loop) and not a physical loop of putting the same cable to 2 ports of the same router. Also, as we know, ethernet uses 4 twisted pairs of cables and only 4 are needed to make a successful connection. The other 4 are just noise guards. You may cut 4 wires and be OK or you could break a pair and lose internet connectivity. You could have all 8 connected and still get noise that gives bad packets. I believe that cable test isn't checking the 8 wires, but the interference that's causing bad packets (that could indicate of course a broken cable of a close proximity with a power line or something else). If there is something that causes bad packets, it will show the approximate distance of the faults.

SG108e is a decent unit. Unless you need a higher speed there's no need for the CISCO. I'm sure Cisco offers some other features if you need them. the 108 does everything i need. Mine has allowed me to maximize both speed and bandwidth.

For the record - which wires did you damage in the cable? Since ONLY 4 wires are actually used, you might have simply cut the unused wires.

is it true that the built in web management doesn't support https? Also is the management interface really accessible from any VLAN that you create?

Okay, but if I just connect this device to my router and then the others devices to the to link switch will it start working with no problem or I need to go to this gui configuration thing process? Thanks!

Too bad that most cheap tp-link switches, you can access the management interface from any vlans. So much for security.

Is it possible in management to reduce a port speed limit eg. to 20Mbits?
Thanks

So when are you going to do another video? :D

With this device it will only give you 100mbps of speed or slightly a bit more not much .
