Wow, Thompson looked like he was slowing down at the end and still managed under 10s? These athletes are all insane!

So we're only seeing this race here bc a GB athlete was DQ

This is all comes down to whether he was moving before or after the gun sounded to start the race. If he started to rise into a sprinting position before the gun sounded, i can see why this would be considered illegal. I believe you're not suppose to move from your starting position until you actually hear the gun... Because even rising up into a sprinting position 0.5 seconds before everyone due to anticipation can be a huge difference in these types of races.

A straight DQ for a marginal mistake like this is indeed harsh, but if you aren't harsh on these sort of things, then every athlete will use their one 'freebie' to try and cheese a good start by anticipating the gun and this means every race will last 10-15 minutes longer and it will be more about cheesing the start than actually sprinting...

I never understood why they don't just give a time penalty for a false start rather than an instant disqualification. I understand that a standard yellow card might cause too many athletes to guess the starting time, but if you give like a 0.1s time penalty (which for the 100m is a lot), then nobody would try yet the athlete in question still gets a reasonable chance to quality if he/she is good enough

For different distances, different time penalties of course

A good start is also part of the race, and that can be learned...my little one.

This Eurosport sucks, only GB and USA athlets, you need to change name.

DQ after one failed start...absolutely ridicoulous to anyone.

it's so harsh - they can get a yellow card instead of DQ !

wow... not a track&field guy here, however i slowed playback speed down to 0.25 and i still couldn't see clearly how Azu started b4 the shot... i could see him move before anyone else, however not differentiate shot before/after he moved... I'm baffled

Tenho acompanhado os jogos olímpicos e vi esse episódio de quebrar o coração do atleta ...mas estas legendas a passar para cima são de lamentar nos vídeos!!

Why not warn him after all the preparations

If it's after the gun, it shouldn't be a DQ.
Bonkers rule.

In my opinion, Thompson was moved without raising his legs from the starting blocks.

why are they always slow down at the end?

Sad when this happens to any athlete. Train so hard for this moment and they're under enormous pressure then make one mistake and it's all over.

One false start is enough to be dq? That’s dumb.

That is so unfair. Prepare for the biggest event for 4 years and get DQ’ed for moving less than a second earlier.

There IS no false start. Its not fair, this system IS obsolet
