I drove a 94 Caprice with the LT4 Corvette engine under the hood, best unit I had. I had to turn it in 2 years later for a Crown Vic. It was a step down, that Caprice ran circles around the Fords. Also when Chevy stopped making the Caprice Ford marked up its Police Package Cars by $4000. Back then on a Government contract patrol units started less than $20 grand.

Whenever I see a squad car witht the single rotating light the police squad theme song fires in my brain.

Great looking cars. Love the sound of that Pulsator Siren at the end of the video.

That there is still a Chrysler K car running...let alone as a built out police car is STUNNING. How they didnt take officer safety into account back then. Was a tin can on 4 lug wheels! Beautiful Caprice and Diplomat! WOW!

The N.Y.P.D. police cars that I grew up were the blue & white colored police cars from the fuselage style in 1972 to the square style in 1986.

the most I like about the vintage NYPD cars is the colorless beacon cover

In the old movie “The French Connection” with Gene Hackman, there are a few scenes with the ‘66 Chevy NYPD Cars running around, and they are no where near as nice as this one in the video is. They’ve obviously been on the street for a good while & in the one scene there is a shot of the WTC’s still under construction, ironically.

I imagine the K cars were the hardest on maintenance budgets! They were problematic cars

Plymouth Fury’s were the best! They flew. They were the right size for driving on the sidewalk when the roads were blocked with traffic and we needed to be there for that 10-13 or that 10-85 F/W. The next best one was the Crown Vic. They just hauled Ass! Build like a brick shit house. Nice and comfy. Chevy’s fell apart. They didn’t hold up. Wow, they bring back memories. Nothing like driving a new RMP 100 + to a run…..

On the 91 Caprice, do you think they have enough lights up there?
