This reminded me of one of my maths teachers back in high school. For whatever reason, he couldn't say the word parabola without an audible sharp intake of breath beforehand. It was a source of much amusement for the class.

I was involved with this when satellite Tv Came in. A project group during the summer holidays were building a mold for a dish and although not my project, a collegue and I went into the city center where a polytechnic/University Technician used a parabolic equation on the new CAD system then produced a code tape for a CNC machine from the CAD design and machined a curved plate that when revolved formed the dish shape. Lots of sand and cement shovelling took place to fill the mold box with the revolving plate in the middle. Reflective material is layered onto the finished mold before fibreglass resin. Lovely mathematics Toby and fantastic entrance you look wonderful !

Wow!! Great teaching style. If Maths was taught like this, most of students would find it pretty interesting and beautiful just like literature or other topics.
