Great lesson Eddie! It would be awesome if you continued and finished the conics topic as a series of lessons because I believe I have not yet seen a full series of lessons on this topic for HSC on youtube.

Dear sir,
I am Victor and I am from india.
I am rather intreast in how focus diretrix method was actually came about ??? In case of an ellipse we can obtain the value of eccentricity by using focus semimajor axis method. So my question is how this two methods are correlated. Can it be shown mathematically how cutting a cone parallelly to one side gives rise to parabolla with eccentricity equal to one.
