No one was hurt after American Airlines says a plane "experienced a mechanical issue on the runway prior to taking off" from Tampa International Airport on Wednesday. The FAA said the crew “reported multiple blown tires” and it will investigate.

All 174 passengers were able to get on another plane to their destinations, the airline said.

Retired Air Force pilot with several thousand hours and have flown this type aircraft. Let’s not fool ourselves, this is a serious event. It does not happen frequently. I’ve been flying for over 40 years in all types of aircraft and have never experienced this on takeoff roll. Know that the crew of this aircraft did a phenomenal job, in a serious situation.

In the industry aborts are taken very seriously. In fact, for large aircraft like this, above 80 kts the standing practice is to not abort over that speed and continue the takeoff unless you have an engine fire, or some foreign object damage has occurred to the engine, or an engine becomes seized. The reason is because aborts above that speed have very often been extremely damaging or had tragic results.

Kudos to the pilot and copilot for being able to stop the aircraft with what looked to be fairly close to takeoff speed. Thank God they had the extra runway to stop.

So what are we going to do? Blame Boeing again for this. When these are obviously maintenance issues, I blew a tire in my Audi, so does that mean it's Audi's fault?

I’m sure all 174 were feeling calm, confident and cool on that next flight.

I used to work at a company that made aircraft brake components. We would occasionally run a reject take off test on the dynamometer. When it was run without a shield it was as good as a 4th of July display.

People are so dramatic. This happens frequently. Media trying to sow fear for no reason.

Commercial pilot here: Nobody was in any danger at any point here. Crews are taught to keep the plane within a safety envelope for reasons such as this. If that cannot be ensured, then the flight is never made.

I would blame this on Boeing but I don’t feel like dying today

They did a great job aborting the takeoff

Took a long time for emergency equipment to get there. Does ATC not watch the takeoffs? Pilot did a great job! Sorry I can’t say the same for those in charge of sending help.

It did not loose it's landing gear, it did not catch on fire, it just blew a tire, so all you people can relax and sit down.

25 year old aircraft (registration N908AN) so im gonna let yall figure out the rest
Edit: Trying to point out that the tires have been changed several times throughout the aircrafts service and people will automatically try to blame Boeing so im letting them know its an obvious maintenance issue
