Refresh the esc using the Afro USB Programmer. As you have the 16a ESC, you can flash it with the 20a firmware as the use the same F/W.

Hope this fixes things. Remember to set the timing to Medium High and enable ONE SHOT by setting the PWM to Damped Light. Below is a link to a video that explains the procedure. Let me know how it goes as I'm thinking of getting these ESC:s myself for my max motors.
