Victor Wooten Classical Thump Slap Technique (Tutorial & Tabs)

So I keep getting asked to breakdown some of Victor Wooten’s techniques on the channel and, well, that’s a big ask because as we all know, Victor is about as freakishly talented a bass player as you’ll ever see and pretty much everything he plays ends up being stupidly hard to learn for us mere mortals.

So today I’m going to give some quick tips on a very specific double thumbing ‘move’ he uses in pieces like Classical Thump, that with a little practice can help with learning a lot of his other lines and that can help with your overall slap and double thumb technique in general.

Great lesson! A good tip for learning a new technique is to remember "slow is smooth, smooth is fast".
Speed sorta shows up all by itself if you practice going slow while focusing on being smooth.

Excellent lesson, thank you very much. In my personal case, the double thumb technique is of little practical use. I see it as an exotic discipline. It's awesome that some people can do it, but it would take me too much time to master it myself.

What can i do about the strings ringing? I can't really play the G Major scale at the end without the D string ringing at the same time
