I ran 2 Matsuura 500's for five years. With the geared drive, the machine was a beast. I enjoyed hearing the transmission clank around. I mostly worked armour plate, and titanium, once had it running at 95-100% spindle load for 27 hours never missed a beat. We did add small automotive oil coolers to the hydraulic fluid system though. Even when the shop got a few new DMG's most of the men did not clamor to leave their Matsuura 800's.

Matsuura are ace machines. I remember where i worked before the high speed milling machines where working 7/7 24/24. The german machines needed a spindle replaced every year to 2 year ish. On 5 year time the Matsuura never never left a beat. And they weren't aces in machine maintenance where i worked.
