I have admittedly used too much detergent but I have never had crusty ( from another video) or oily feeling clothes.

Oily sounds like it’s coming from the fabric softener not the detergent

I always use too much detergent and I only put half of what they recommend.

That’s why I loved old school washing machines.

Most washing machines I have used have options for higher water levels, and extra rinses. For those with soft water, extra rinses can be a must regardless. For those with hard water, the build up tend to be mineral deposits from the water, and actually the need for a high quality detergent optimal for local conditions and upping the dose a bit.

In short vids like this you only get half the info at best; dirty clothes generally needs a full dose, even upping the dose. A delicate cycle with only a few items, a bit less. The advice on the bottle is the best to start with, and adjust to local conditions from your own experience.

Just watch the last rinse water, it should be clear and no ideally little to no suds. The clothes should smell fresh, and not too much of the perfume added.

Add and extra rinse cycle & you’ll avoid this problem all together…

I thought it was because I put bacon grease in cause I like the smell, but now I know less detergent.

Your video gave me absolutely zero information and never told me how much detergent to put in
