Exploring Iquitos in Peru & the Amazon Jungle

Iquitos is a Peruvian town, hidden deep in the Amazon Jungle. It is the largest town in the world not connected by road. You either go by boat for days on end or fly in.

I flew in and spend a week exploring the area, when the waters where at their highest. My Amazon Jungle accommodation was about to go under water.

Iquitos is a different place to the rest of Peru. Full of rickshaws and majestic crumbling colonial building. In this video I show Belén with their houses on stilts, and I visit Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm and the Manatee Rescue Centre.

I went on a 3 day trip into the Amazon Jungle to a part called Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Each day, we did a different activity, from visiting the local villages, attempting to hike in the sweltering jungle, feeding monkeys, seeing Sloths, trying exotic fruit and just relaxing in the hammocks.

I want to go! Flights are so expensive, though. We have kids too, so that makes it all the more expensive. Hopefully we get to see this paradise one day.

That Ocelot was stunning!  You really got to embrace the local culture on this trip.  And what a strong sense of culture there is in the Amazon!  I was mesmerized by those butterflies once you got back to Iquitos.

Omg I loved your video so much. All the cute animals and butterflies were beautiful to watch. I just about squealed when I saw the sweet little sloth holding on to that kid! Aww!! I'm curious what are some special things you'd need to bring for a trip like this. I saw the rain boots for trekking through the water.

Ocelot's are so damn cute! As are all of the other animals. Crazy that you have to go by boat or fly to get to Iquitos. I'll look into it... :D

Excellent job. You have managed to place the attention of your report on what you were filming, and not on yourselves... Congratulations.
