01 - What is a Variable? (Part 1) Learn How to Use Variables in Algebra.

In this lesson, we will learn what a variable is and why they are important in Algebra. A variable is a placeholder for a numerical value. If we don't know what a number is in an equation, we use a variable to represent the number.

Usually we then solve the equation to find out what the value of the variable is. Variables can use any letter of the alphabet. "t" is commonly use for time. "a" can be used for acceleration. "v" can be used for velocity. Generically, we usually use "x" for variables in algebra.

During my time in the 9th grade i had missed many lessons due to problems of my own, in which missing these lesson set me behind everyone else to the point that i hated math with all my heart, or so i thought. I had envied it because of my lack of knowledge, and earlier this month i began to seek out how to understand it. So now im here, reteaching myself all that i missed. I truly do appreciate this video, it was short, but not to short, got the point crossed AND it was capturing my intrest enough to come back and learn.

i have unashamedly used Jason's videos to home school my granddaughter in science (occasionally maths also). In computer science, a variable is an empty container that holds && || stores a value be it, an integer value string value float value or bool but you get the picture. I guess in algebra it's almost the same thing but it can only hold numeric value and uses a character as a placeholder instead of storing the value... lol.
