great tips but I prefer to rely on my insane RNG luck

One thing to add to the risk minimization: Defensive pokemons are more likely to survive bad luck. If your alakazam misses his focus blast, he's basically dead. Your Wailord on the other hand will most likely survive whatever your opponent does when you miss hydro pump
Edit:
Several people pointed out that wailord isn't that strong. To which I agree, but that's kind off the point: Even a mediocre pokemon is often better in a nuzlocke than a glass canon. Of course if you're the best nuzlocker in the world, you'll be able to keep your alakazam alive, but otherwise you might consider to use it only very carefully, if at all

This isn't even nuzlocke advice. This is just straight up life advice

Please be a series. More stuff in general is good, but this kind of advice would greatly help.

A few more tips:
*Grind all the pokemon on your team. Don't just have 1 strong pokemon on point. That's asking for trouble.
*Take it slow at times. Playing loose and fast leads to avoidable mistakes.
*Grind efficiently. It's better to grind xp on pokemon that you OHKO than on something that has a chance to crit kill a teammate. It might take a little longer, but better to be safe than sorry.

If I may add my own opinion: I think that when you first start doing nuzlockes it is a good idea to play with Gyms as checkpoints. That way if you lose a pokemon to RNG (or anything at all with self-destruct) then you get to weigh: do I reset from allll the way back when I fought gym 3? Or do I soldier on with a dead party member.

I find that having that rule made it easier for me to accept deaths. I hope this helps any of you future nuzlockers out there!

The second one actually does really help. I’m a perfectionist at heart, so being reassured about bad natures takes a lot of weight off my shoulders

This is really good, I 'd love to watch more of these "tutorial" style videos! Especially pivoting, it's a skill I always struggle with and it's very hard to find any kind of tutorial on things like these.

I don’t do nuzlockes but I have adopted some of your self-imposed rules such as, no over leveling the gym leaders ace or using items during battle. This has made my runs much more difficult and enjoyable so thanks for all you do!!

Discovered this channel a month or so ago and it is everything I wanted when I first discovered Nuzlockes with Jaiden Animation's Platinum video. I kept thinking to myself, "Wow, monotype Nuzlockes would be so hype" and "I wish there was a good Nuzlocke tips channel" but I found nothing. Thank you for doing this, FlygonHG. You've reinvigorated my love for the Locke.

Yoo, this was a really good video! I'm usually a bit wary of these kinds of videos, because its not too uncommon for the people making them to go "this is the ONLY way and if you DON'T do it like this you're doing it WRONG", but I genuinly appreciated the message of "hey, keep it fun for yourself", followed by some helpful tips. I actually feel a lot better about wanting to try a modified hardcore nuzlocke right now, without feeling bad about adding some small things to keep it fun for myself, so thank you! I think I'll come back to this one, haha

I love how much small details Matti puts in his videos. They make the video much better

One interesting thing to add, don't dismiss Pokemon encounters because they are known to be "bad"
Bidoof is one huge example. Bidoof and Bibarel have a known reputation of being useless, only being used for HM Slaves
But Bidoof has an early evolution level (15), hence giving you an evolved Pokemon so early on. Also gives you a water type early on too (not that water types are hard to find), and Bibarel's stats aren't too bad either. Normal types are on the whole pretty good too, not to mention stab Return, while also allowing you to pivot on Ghosts (ahem Fantina). So if you encounter a Bidoof, don't box it and never use it. Just use it until you find a replacement

I love the release fainted pokemon rule. Makes me cherish my team more and be creative with comps.

But since i never finished a nuzlocke, i made it easier with two rules:

1. You can catch one pokemon by area of encounter on each route (ex: 1 on grass, 1 on water (surf), 1 on rod, 1 on honeytree, etc. on the same route)
2. Any revives you encounter as an item or hidden items can be used to revive one of your "dead" pokemon. Buying is prohibited.

These are actually good tips... And I'm happy that I learnt these things while playing Nuzlockes...

I have been thinking about trying Nuzlocking again, but wasn’t too sure. But this was very encouraging! Thanks.

Great video! The nuzlocke community needs more of these. Though a lot of these tips are known, they're usually just brought up in passing during long videos, I think it would be great if they had their own segments or videos dedicated to going in-depth.

I'd really like to see a video on best encounters or abilities, and maybe even one just listing a bunch of fun ways to pronounce pokemon names

thanks to u and a lot of other youtubers, i started to love nuzlockes. Before, nuzlockes were a thing i wouldnt do that much, but now theyre amazing. In my nuzlockes i grind with rare candies cause it makes it very long and annoying and i dont risk any deaths. that also allows me to switch between pokemon every gym which is super fun

I’m actually very curious on why Wally was complicit in Watergate. I would honestly watch that video. Please do it.
