I think that the Hermits need to find the perfect balance between scripted and more normal gameplay. I think Season 6 and 7 were great examples of this: Some great shenanigans and storylines which felt very natural and still left plenty of times for great builds, interactions, etc.

If you dislike roleplaying dont feel pressured to do it. I both enjoy hermits that do it and hermits that don't, and it definitely became too much to handle this season. My favorite hermit is Etho and he doesnt even touch roleplaying at all so I think just do what you're most comfortable with X :)

My “issue” with S8 was how the Hermits never really “lived” in their bases as much as they did in previous seasons. Most of them only just finished their bases and some didn’t even. I really loved the builds this season and it’s a shame to not see them being used and lived in to their full extend.

Just seems a bit pointless to spend months building a home and then not live in it.

The ending was absolutely spectacular though.

to be completely honest, i don’t mind whether there’s roleplay/storylines or not. just as long as we still get moments of just unplanned goofiness between the hermits. i’m here for all of it.

I enjoyed the colabs between the hermits. However the downside of this was, when you then go to watch another hermit video, you would find you have already seen most the content already.

I personally prefer the raw, unchanged personalities of the hermits (which is why I watch) and the Role-Play kinda removed that so I'm in the same boat on the role play aspect.

I tend to like the stories that emerge better than the ones that are created, the mycelium vs grass stuff for example, it seemed to just be friends messing with eachother and having fun

I like better storylines that just kinda appear as the season goes, like season 6 demise, the myselium war on season 7, or the tree war between Mumbo and Grian at the start of season 8 than planned storylines like the moon getting bigger.

Also something I really enjoy from hermitcraft is the fact that it is mostly vanilla Minecraft, with only some “quality of life” and commodity changes like the proximity chat mod, the rain thing, or the multiplayer sleep, changes that don’t heavily change the game, and help hermits both in game, and with creating content, unlike most smps and letsplays currently. I really hope that doesn’t change in the future

I'm relieved to hear this. The main reason I started watching most of the hermits was for the more natural and relaxed style of Minecraft gameplay and while roleplaying can be fun it's just not why I'm here

The derpcoin storyline helped me explain scammy behavior to my 7 year old, so thank you for that. Also, it's almost heartening that so many younger people recognized that it was scammy, since that's what you were trying to portray. Season 8 was my favorite due solely to the proximity mod. It made the interactions so organic.

I feel that with the short season, everyone was still in the base building phase by the end of it, compared to longer seasons where they eventually branch out and work on other projects and focus on interactions. The closeness of the bases was nice, especially with the northeast bunch regularly interacting and 'provoking' each other. By far the best part of the season was the introduction of Prox chat. One of the best aspects of hermitrcaft is seeing all these great personalities interact and prox chat just allows that to be smoother and more spontaneous compared to text chat or having to hop in discord calls.

I can relate to the whole not really wanting to do a storyline thing. I just like building stuff and that pretty much doesn't leave any room in my brain to figure out how to tie it into a storyline.

The addition of proximity chat was great, but I feel like it was much better when there was a shopping district. It allows for more collabs and it kept a fun, non-scripted storyline in hc season 7. While the small amount of roleplaying is fine, its important to keep a balance. Without a shopping district, parts of the continent can't connect with others as well, meaning less interactions and more of hermits trying to put in their own stories. But thats just my opinion and I probably could've written something better.

edit: i realised this was written terribly, here’s what I was really trying to put across:
say you only watch one hermit. You’ll see them walk into some shop in the shopping district and compliment the creator. or maybe you’ll see them walk up to a competition stand thing and again, talk about the creator or maybe others who are taking part. that might encourage the viewer to go watch the other pov, see that person’s general area and perspective. with a shopping district, for me at least, it feels like things in the server get more down to earth and less surreal. They may not interact properly but at least they acknowledge each other instead of only those who are in their vicinity, they are in war with or have invited them for stuff (cough cough, zedaph, cough cough)

I personally didn’t enjoy how it is becoming less and less vanilla but it seems like most people are enjoying it more, also i preferred having the combined shopping area, it just seemed to make more interesting things happen but i really liked how close everyone was together and the proximity chat is a great addition to the server.

Honestly, I'm glad you tried something that you ended up disliking, and were comfortable saying, "Hey, I didn't like doing this." Because as important as I think it is to try new things, I think it's equally important to be okay when they don't work out. I super look forward to seeing what comes of Season 9 from the whole crew, and I hope it's easy for you to sink back into your passion!

I’m not into the storylines myself, especially when they get really elaborate. I like just watching you guys make amazingly creative builds, lag out the server with redstone, collab with each other, and have fun with pranks and mini games.

The thing I love about hermitcraft was the lack of scripted roleplay. There's a ton of other people that do that. Hermits collaborating and letting things develop naturally is what I think the magic of hermitcraft is.

I prefer the natural gameplay as opposed to scripted role play. Do what you feel comfortable doing, not just what the other hermits are doing. I really love it when you just be you! Best of luck for next season!

I'd say in order to get a great season of Hermitcraft, everyone should just do what they love/passionate about. You guys are way more energetic that way

The other hermits get this too a lot. Grian and others have had to countless times say "Don't worry about (such and such wrongdoing or destruction) we all get along and are friends so don't harass other hermits." It just comes from having such a large Hermitcraft fanbase comprised of so many great Hermits fanbases such as yours. Just always remember, just like anywhere else, like twitter, facebook, youtube comments, the negative are the loudest but smallest percentage of any group.
