5 DJI Mavic Pro Shooting Tips, Tricks & Ideas!

I've been flying the DJI Mavic Pro for a while now, and I have a couple tips, tricks, and ideas for capturing awesome aerial shots!
1. The Mavic FOV (field of view) is more narrow than the Phantom's wide angle lens, it almost feels "zoomed in". To best utilize this:
a. Get super close to objects in the foreground, and the lens will make it look like you're even closer than real life!
b. Hit small gaps and openings (flip into Sport mode to prevent object avoidance sensors from bouncing it back)
2. KISS: keep it simple stupid (my favorite rule of thumb :) Simple push-ins or pull-backs, especially with the narrow FOV, allow objects and close-up landscapes to go scraping by.
3. Slow and Steady! (wins the race ;-) Don't touch that Yaw or camera tilt, because the slightest movement is very apparent and will ruin the fluidity of the shot. You want to keep CONSISTENT, smooth, elegant cinematic moves.
4. IF you MUST pan, keep it SUUPER slow. Medium or fast pans are often blurry and dizzying. It also helps if your pan is tracking an object in frame (like the truck in my video)
5. Use Active Track or (with lots of practice) manually keep your main subject/object in the dead-center of frame, and slowly rotate (strafe right stick) and spin yaw (left stick) at the exact same speed, basically orbiting around your subject. When done well, it looks awesome!

Those are a quick 5 shooting tips, tricks and ideas - let me know of any other tricks you've learned down in the comments below!

Do any of you guys have the Mavic Pro?! What do you think of it?? Love it?!

The thing about taking such beautiful footage is that it's so fluid and natural that you don't even think there's a camera with a person operating it carefully figuring it all out. Then you try to do it yourself and you realize just *how* difficult it is and how much knowledge and artistry is involved. That's how you know you've done a good job; the end product feels effortless when the opposite is true.

I have a Mavic Pro, and I love it. It's just so capable of all I need. I've posted some pretty OK stuff on YouTube with it, but it's technical tips like this that will make future offerings better! Thanks again for the post, and thanks for asking.

@Ben Schmanke, What is your take on framerate?
I get jerky footage with the slightest panning if I record in 24fps and render at 24fps, same for 25 fps. The only thing that seems to work is 30fps, which is actually 29.97fps.

Great advice. I'm a big fan of simplicity and found great help in the intelligent flight modes to make a more complex movement. With Point of interest, you can do an otherwise impossible barrel roll shot where you climb in a spiral with an object in focus

Thank you for this video. Indeed it is not easy to make beautiful shots even with the best drone of the moment;)
I find that the best renders are in active track mode for my videos.

Great video and great video tips for the Mavic. In an attempt to get good slow pans I started using the "tripod mode" on the Mavic to shoot. Helps tremendously in getting better videos.
Ben...keep up the great videos.
