2016 Evinrude E-TEC 150 - two stroke direct injection at its best - brand new and just installed - BRP Evinrude are the pioneers of 2 stroke direct injection - this engine is a 2.6L 60 degree V6 with lightning acceleration and the absolute best fuel efficiency - better than 4 stroke outboard engines which are NOT direct injection engines - 4 stroke outboard engines are fuel injected - but fuel is injected in the intake manifold NOT the cylinder head as are the E-TEC engines - this means that exhaust scavenging in a 4 stroke engine is still achieved with fuel and air - where as exhaust gas scavenging is achieved with air only on an E-TEC, and fresh fuel is only injected when the exhaust scavenging process is complete. This dispels the myth that 4 stroke outboards are more fuel efficient than 2 stroke
