Join Nat Dobbie, our Systems Consultant as he takes you through the set up of your brand new Pro-Ject Audio Debut Carbon Evo turntable!

From the middle of the 1990s, only a handful of years after Pro-Ject Audio Systems was founded and right at the peak of CD’s popularity, we could already see the growing number of people missing analogue music. In 1998 Heinz Lichtenegger and his UK distributor and longtime friend, Laurence Armstrong, were sitting together dreaming of a record player that would make analogue sound accessible to more people. They wanted a new model that could deliver as close to high-end sound as possible, but at a price that a new younger generation could afford. Thanks to their dear friend and ProJect’s original product manager, Jiri Kroutil, within only a few days they had a sample and the Debut was born.

Today, after more than 20 years, the Debut is one of the best-selling products in the history of hi-fi with close to 1 million units sold. As it made listening to vinyl an affordable option for music lovers, with its minimalist aesthetic and premium finish options it also made analogue fashionable again. Through the years we constantly kept improving our formula, moving with technologies and fashion trends. In the early 2010s, the Debut Carbon gave new life to the ongoing Debut revolution and now in 2020, it is time for the next generation.

The Debut Carbon is already nearly the perfect turntable, especially considering the price badge and the used materials. Now we took our time to think again. We have done a lot of research to make the Debut Carbon even better, but our main objective has not changed over the years. We still want to build an affordable high-performance turntable that not just looks incredibly luxurious and modern, but also features a great sound quality.

The Debut Carbon EVO focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable sound great. Technically correct design - expert craftsmanship - handmade in the EU. This turntable is built to last you a lifetime!

Additional features that might negatively impact the overall audio performance or longevity are left out. At that level of sonic performance, it is always better to opt for a separate phono stage. If you want Bluetooth connectivity or a USB interface - we offer a broad portfolio of components at different performance levels to suit your budget.

Just a note, the Pro-ject site says to have the yellow (shielded) end of the cable connected to the pre amp or integrated amp. Opposite of what’s shown here

someone put up my project and just now i accidentally knocked the antiskate weight off (idk how either) obviously i was stressed if i had broken something, but once i saw I didn't, i still did not know how to put it back on, so thanks for the video!

Thanks for explaining about the anti-skate weight, for the life of me couldn't see the bloody fishing line attached to it when it was in the plastic bag. One thing though - the little triangle adaptor is for 45s, not 78s. Most Australian-pressed 7" singles @ 45 RPM had a small hole in the centre, like an LP. However, lots of overseas 7" singles had a large hole in the middle; that's what the adaptor is for. It even says so in the setup guide - b) Adapter for 7" singles. I have quite a few of them (overseas 45s). Never seen 78s with a large hole like that but that's not to say they don't exist. Cheers.

Loved the video, the way you present it is terrific. Detailed and step by step with out sounding like you're talking down to use audiophiles with toddler levels of technical knowledge 🙂 I'm still setting up my system and haven't yet decided whether or not to go with a turntable at all, vs. a solid hi-rez DAP. Cheers from the Philippines.

Trying buying from LENC but with the current Black Friday sales (30% off) I just grabbed whatever I could as was worried that stocks would have sold out

I own a debut Carbon Evo for two years. I recently noticed the noise that was based on the engine. I replaced the engine with a new one. Bought a better power supply. The engine noise is less, but it is still there. At a speed of 45, it is stronger. This does not affect the sound when playing LPs. But I regret that this is happening in the turntable at such a price. What makes sense to upgrade this turntable, which is being humbled by the engine already from production. Enthusiastic reviewers are probably deaf.

Thanks your setup video is really clear and easy to follow
I’ve also ordered a yellow one so it was great to see this deck close up on camera

Looking forward to buy this turntable. I just think you forgot the turntable leveling step before any other adjustment, as many reviewers do.

I find pushing the stylus and cartridge as far forward as possible and making it well aligned is also key. I've found that Carbon Evo turntables out of factory require this. By the way the RCA cables need to go the other way around. As per pro-jects instructions "The yellow marked side should always be connected to the receiving end."

What can I do if I accidentally removed the line from my anti skating weight? Can I reattach the line, or do I need to get another one?

I'm on my 2nd Pro-Ject . The speed control stopped working for 45 on my piano black Evo . I pretty much gave that away. Then I paid for another Pro- Ject, Debut Evo . Put a $899 Sumiko Songbird MC cart on . Added all the upgrades I could, acrylic platter, diamond cut sub platter, Linear power supply. Sounds pretty nice.
Not crazy about 3 feet. Can tilt if you're not careful. I think that's just the way project cheapped out . The connector that the dust cover slides on to is loose. Can't seem to get it to stay tight, Both tables have a not great fitting rca for . The right side doesn't feel right. Both tables, same thing . And it's light. I have the Walnut veneer. It could have been darker, doesn't look like much of a finish on the wood.
So ive turned my $599 Evo into a $2, 100 turntable . It sounds good. It's very plane looking to me. But it works .
