Australia’s newly elected government is facing a perfect storm, with rising inflation, food shortages, higher interest rates and now an energy crisis.
The national market operator has seized control of the energy market in an unprecedented intervention to avoid the prospect of widespread power outages.
All parties have warned prices are still set to soar in the coming months.

Al Jazeera’s Sarah Clarke reports from Brisbane, Australia.

In the Sydney winter, people wear layers of cloths to save money from paying for the expensive electricity.

In Australia and elsewhere these shortages seem to be organized by companies looking to pad their bottom lines. Probably in a couple of years we will find that it is the case.

Looking at the photo at the opening, it sort of looks like the Australian electric infrastructure is even worse than that of the US. All those cables look like they are held in place by duck tape. What a total mess.

Kristen O'Connell would be the ones out out the street demanding expensive green energy

Send Joe Biden over to help. That should heat things up during the winter.

Too much green dogma... Australia needs to move to micro-nuclear as well as solar power. It may be able to transition to hydrogen power as India and several countries in Europe are... but to completely move away from hydrocarbons will take 30 years.

There us actually too much Oil on the Worldwide market. The only shortage of Oil is from countries that won't buy from Iran or Venezuela or Russia because of USA/EU sanctions.

A very predictable outcome with government's default wack-a-mole solution to every problem without regards for the consequences...

I don't recall Cheap and Easy being part of the horses of the apocalypse. Not to say the world is ending, but I would never have figured that a pandemic leading into World War 3 would be either cheap or easy.
