what's your favorite spongebob movie?

Squidward shoving the pizza in the guys face already showed that he cared about spongebob

Also worth mentioning how much Hillenburg was against any form of spinoff, and now they've used this movie to advertise for a spinoff after Hillenburg's passing. The tribute end card was such a joke.

Another big reason Hasselhoff's cameo worked in the first movie is because him having a cameo was, itself, part of the joke.

They ruined the cannon by making it so Sandy and Spongebob met at camp, even though they met in the second half of the first episode. Essentially erasing everything Hillenburg built. That tribute to Stephen Hillenburg at the end seems so fake.

God, it actually hurts seeing such a GORGEOUS animation style wasted on such a messy movie. A damn shame, really.

Fans: What inspired you to make this awful movie and Spin-off?

Nicklodean: Money.

The funny part is that it's entirely possible for this movie to get an Oscar.

I’m surprised you didn’t even mention the big canonical plot holes this movie has concerning SpongeBob meeting other characters, especially Sandy, who was literally established in one of the first episodes as being someone who SpongeBob hadn’t encountered before. Moreover, her not being a Bikini Bottom native was a pretty important plotline in many episodes of early SpongeBob. It totally felt like a slap in the face for the writers to disregard that, especially as they paid tribute to Hillenburg himself at the end, who intricately created this world that these writers clearly have no real awareness of

Why are they retconning everything? It's official canon that Spongebob met Sandy for the first time during the run of the show. Also, Hillenburg specifically said he never wanted any pre-pilot "origins" for Spongebob Squarepants.

Haven’t seen Sponge on the Run. But let’s be honest: nothing could ever top the first movie. Although I did enjoy Sponge out of Water.

The worst thing about the flashbacks in this movie is how they changed up EYERY SINGLE story of how the characters met. SpongeBob met Sandy in the first season doing karate. Mr. Krabs was never a food truck operator and he knew plankton since preschool (so they should be around the same age, which in the spinoff they're not). I could go on for another five minutes or so, but you get the idea. I hate how they changed the entire back story just to make more money, and that against Hillenburg's will.

Continuity errors:
1: Mr.Krabs keeps the formula in his safe, not his weird fannypack/belt thing
2: The king of the sea is neptune, not poseidon
3: The characters did not all somehow meet at a summer camp (spongebob, gary, patrick, sandy, eugene, squidward)
4: The Krusty Krab existed before spongebob was born
-Add any more continuity errors from this movie in the comment replies.

"The writers are self aware, but the characters are not".

Brilliant. You've perfectly described what I've always loved about all great comedies and hated about all bad ones in a single sentence.

When Stephen Hillenburg died, the SpongeBob legacy died with him. The end.

The first movie is a love-letter to the show.

The second one is ultimately missed potential.

The third is a trailer for Muppet Babies.

This is what happens when corporate greed sucks the life out of a franchise.
