On one of her tour documentaries, she said she met him through a mutual friend in a club (he was a back up dancer but not yet hers). She said he was unimpressed by her and not starstruck and she loved that. She then invited him on her European tour. I think she craved something real and him not being starstruck was what made her interested (he seemed different to the men who fell at her feet) well as being attracted to him.
