Straight out of my Mego era (which was 1974, 5 & 6, I think). I got all 8 of these worlds greatest heroes plus Joker and my sister had Dinah-Mite. I never knew Superman did double duty as Dinah-mites friend until recent years. I have repros of all these DC heroes and foes now, plus Tarzan and vintage Spidey, Cap and Dinah.

Great memories here! Although in 1974 all I wanted was DC Superheroes, today I want to live in a life-size Dinah-Mite camper van. I would bring new meanings to the word “Campmobile.” This video is officially outtasight.

From this I had/may still have somewhere Dr Zaius, Joker, Penguin and the Batmobile.
I love my 1970s childhood memories!

Great episode. More Apes and Mad Monsters. The cornerstone of any Mego collection.

Can never get enough of the 'Time Warps'; that Hip 'n Happening music, too.

I still find it absolutely incredible the vinyl playsets were made in Brooklyn, I think, if I remember correctly. So many factories in Brooklynn, as well as the other boroughs.

These toys being around today are a testament to how they were made, even the imported goods from foreign factories. Getting a Batman, and the Batmobile... that thing survived eight foot crashes down stairs. And how many kids were carrying Mego figures everywhere they went in the 70s. No wonder the gloves were lost. Lol

I think Mego was one of the last companies to make capes from both Marvel/DC in the same toy line. There could be other more modern lines, but I think this was it. And they did it in 3.75, as well. Kids don't get IP or branding or all the other stuff that keeps properties from mingling...they just want the Hulk to take on Superman. One of the many reasons all 3 lines were iconic.

Great to see the catalog and ads. Great memories of pouring over them again and again, making birthday and Christmas wishlists. Planet of the Apes collection was a must have.

5 minute mark music from one of Paul Naschy's Wolfman movies. ;)

Oh gosh, the Wee Woodys, it's been a minute since I've thought about those. I remember going into a small toy shop with my Mom once back around 1976, and that place had a bunch of these toys there. It was a store that mainly sold games and toys for younger aged kids, so I guess that makes sense. For some reason I wasn't interested at all in the line even though I was about right for it age-wise. Instead, I wound up leaving with the Hasbro COOTIE game, for some unknown reason lol.

Playsets and vehicles are what made the action figures worth investing in. Mego really understood the long term play value when you had these things. Imagine a time when we played with these things and did not keep them in the boxes to display on a shelf. Crazy times LOL

Thanks, that was really interesting to watch. I always enjoy hearing more about Mego's varied history, and particularly the Planet of the Apes / Batman lines. I loved hearing also about the various playsets available at the time, most impressive. Great job once again, thanks.
