Russel Tugboat comes to Thunder Bay Ontario

An old Historic tugboat is now in Thunder Bay and we had the opportunity to tour the boat! It's in pieces right now but hopefully one day we will see this tugboat out and about in the harbour and on Lake Superior! Come along as we tour this old Logging Tugboat that was built in Owen Sound Ontario, cut apart and shipped to Orient Bay Lake Nipigon by rail, then cut apart again and shipped up to Lake Winnipeg Manitoba and now cut apart for the third time and shipped to Thunder Bay Ontario to begin a new life!

Is really cool . Reminds me of a book that I used to have incredible cross-sections and it just looks just like it when you walk in between the two halves.

My dad was the chief on the John I back in the late 60's...I have pic's of him in it...last time we both saw it was in Manitoba..tied up and looking really bad...had a different name on it but he recognized it right away....very cool...like to watch the progress of the rebuild if you can keep us posted....

wow, amazing video! How ironic to see it laying there in pieces, but yet to see the old water lines. That would be great to see it put back together, and into the water. I'm sure that you will keep us updated. Thank you for sharing your findings!

It is great to see tugs rebuilt, this one is going to be pricey to run as a pleasure boat, the engines are outstanding of course, for sure it will take some time to do it right, out here in BC there are few older tugs that were converted still in these waters, most were sold to folks down south, mighty cool all the same Thanks for the great video Cheers

Wonder what safety checks will be performed once welded back together. I know where a steamship is that was transported in pieces and welded  together at the waterside. a mobile x-ray machine came in and scanned welds and it was deemed not to be up to scratch so a maritime safety certificate hasn't been issued. There was big argument over who should pay for the rectification work, but nothing was ever done. boat has now been sitting rotting for last 12 years.
