Here's my take: Russia And China are ideological Allies which is far deeper and FAR STRONGER than Russia's wishy-washy relationship with India. Also, while Russia (USSR then) got involved to "protect" India from the US in 1971 during the Bangladesh liberation war, we MUST remember that the US was helping it's ally, and the USSR helped India against their enemy, the US. This is about as far as Russia ever went. Nowadays, in the event of an India Pak conflict, Russia will remain neutral because their relationship with Pakistan has improved significantly. But here's the real deal: When it comes to India Vs. China - Russia wont and cant do much more than simply make diplomatic statements asking both sides to settle things peacefully. Russia will never call out the Chinese for aggression. The United States on the other hand is a Strategic Clone of India, and the most powerful economic force in existence today. We must stop talking about this useless bullshit (in fact, dangerous) called "trust" with China and Russia and start thinking strategically. We must Ally with the US and start doing things that benefit us and the United States. We must start doing everything to undermine China at every possible level internationally (China has been doing that to us for years now, and some of our media like NDTV is still stuck with “can we trust China” questions).

With Russia being sanctioned to death, I believe Russian can't afford to make China an enemy as it may risk loosing that 100B trade each year. I also think that part of keeping China happy requires that Russia not get too friendly with potential competitors (i.e. India).
