Lom Norway - City Tour & Drone, 4k

The town of Lom is located in the northern part of the Gudbrandsdalen valley. In the middle of the highest mountains in Northern Europe - in the Norwegian county Innlandet.

The weather here changes quickly, as cold winds blow from the peaks of the Jotunheimen highlands into the valley. Our walk began with a cloudy day and a covered sky, then it started to rain and blow, and then suddenly the sun came out.

The turbulent Bøvre River flows through the town, it originates in a small lake Bøvervatnet at an altitude of 1,357 meters above sea level. This lake is fed by the Smørstabbreen glacier in the west of Jotunheimen. The water is saturated with glacial silt and has a cloudy blue color.

In the town of Lom, next to the bridge, the river forms the Prestfossen waterfall. In July, when the glaciers are especially active in melting and the river is full, the waterfall roars and foams. This unforgettable spectacle can be seen from the observation deck, or you can gather up your courage and fly over the seething stream on the Zipline (Prestfosstraversen Zipline).

Since we already had zipline experience on our trip to Flåm, we simply enjoyed the moment and got unforgettable pleasure from the flight!

Then we went to the Lom Village Museum (Lom Bygdamuseum). It contains historical wooden houses from farms in the cities of Lom, Skjåk, and Vågå. A stream also flows through the museum in a wooden trough. It is peaceful and the birds sing, and if you use your imagination, you can easily travel to the 18th century and admire the collection of Norwegian barns on legs called Stabburet.

In the center of Lom, there is a roundabout and even though Lom is not a big town, the flow of cars on the roundabout at any time of the year is very dense. After all, this is the main junction between two popular tourist destinations. Tourist road number 55 leads to the mountain pass Sognefjellet and road 15 leads to the most picturesque fjord in Norway - Geiranger.

Next to the roundabout, an unusual fountain about 6 m high babbles. Water flows down the gutters into the pool at the base. It was built in 1985 as a reminder of farmers irrigating their fields with similar equipment.

Then the sun appeared in the sky and the brown houses of the town of Lom began to look especially gingerbread and elegant! And after a walk around the town, we went to the Norwegian Mountain Center (Norsk Fjellsenter).

Here you will find everything related to the Norwegian national parks of Jotunheimen, Breheimen, and Reinheimen. You can also get useful tips on hiking in the mountains and information about the landscape, plants, and wildlife.

We were most impressed by the exhibition Frozen in Time (Frose i tid), these are finds from under melted glaciers, things that our ancestors forgot or lost during hunting and traveling several thousand years ago. Goosebumps form on your skin when you look at skis, clothes, or a dog skeleton that has been perfectly preserved after lying in a glacier for 500 years.
And you immediately want to be more careful when walking near glaciers, maybe you will be able to find something similar and give it to the museum.

Then, in the rays of the evening sun, we went to admire one of the largest, most beautiful, and most well-preserved wooden churches in Norway - Lomskyrkja. This impressive timber-frame church dates back to 1158-59, which is confirmed by dendrochronological research. It is still the main church of the town of Lom.
A couple of years ago, its walls were tarred with a special solution. Therefore, when you walk around, you always feel a specific smell, which, by the way, we like!

At the end of the video, we invite you to admire the confluence of two rivers, Otta and Bøvre. They have different colors and therefore their waters dance beautifully next to each other. Forming underwater vortices under the bridge of the Fv486 road and mixing. This spectacle is truly hypnotic!
