Has Euro 2024 ACTUALLY Been The Worst Tournament of All Time?

Ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024 final between England and Spain this evening, a lot of people, particularly on social media, are describing this as the worst Euros of all time - if not the worst tournament, but are they right?

I wanted to take a look at some of the arguments in favour and against Euro 2024, and indeed, modern football as a whole.

So in this video, HITC Sevens takes a closer look at this summer's Euros, the World Cups and Euros which preceded it, and why people have been so quick to criticise this tournament in particular.

If Lamine Yamal lives up to even half of his potential, we will all look nostalgically back at this tournament as his breakout campaign

Worst of all time is typical social media hyperbole, but it is pretty much forgettable.

I've actually enjoyed this tournament specifically with the new young generation showing their abilities on the world stage in Musiala, Wirtz, Yamal, Williams, Saliba, Mainoo, Nuno Mendes etc and also the smaller nations in Georgia showing up and beating the odds

As a German from Stuttgart, it's been a great tournament. I've been partying with Scots, Hungarians, Danes, etc. and had the best time of my life. The group stage was great, but the knockouts are forgetful I must admit. But purely for the fact that it was hosted by my country and there have been games played in my hometown, it's been the best month of my life

I don’t think it’s been a horrible tournament, but the fact that the 3 most talented teams on paper (France, England and Portugal) have played absolutely awful football hasn’t helped

No one who watched any of Euro 2016 would make this claim- genuinely the most miserable version of football I’ve ever seen

The tournament was entertaining, it's just the small countries like Turkey, Georgia and Austria braught on the show and were knocked out early and the boring big countries went far
Fortunately an entertaining side (Spai) made it to the final

Spain against Germany was a great match. That's what happens when two offensive teams face each other.

4:37 to name france vs portugal as a stand out in terms of boringness as an english person is ridiculous. that game probably had more highlights than england during the whole group stage

You’ll hear about how bad the Euros have been almost only in English media channels. Actually, there have been many exciting games.

Own goals is the footballer with the most goals in the same way that Vacant is the wrestler with the most titles in Wrestling

When Greece won that thing we were lectured by English media about destroying football. Meanwhile England with 10 times better roster got to the finals having literally half a game of good football against Netherlands.

2 video suggestions for a video "What on earth is going to on"
1.Fluminese from the winner Copa Libertadores in the last and penultimate Braziliero Seria A and Fernando Deniz was fired.
2.Sheriff Tiraspol from a victory against Real Madrid in the 2021-2022 season for the first time in 9 years when they lose the title in Moldova and they lost in the Europa League against NK Zira for Azerbaidjan

I think social media plays a huge part. Groupthink whinging skews perception and whips people into a false sense of misery.

In the old days, the average fan at home wasnt exposed to ridicule from rival fans when we drew with smaller teams so now it seems disastrous.

I'm still struggling to accept England were booed in the final warm up game just before they left for a tournament. To see the manager and players' families being pelted with beer cups after a win and a draw from the first two games was just insane.

The group stage was FIRE. The knockouts ... not so much. Basically, the small teams were dope and the big ones were crap to watch this year, the exception being Spain.

What people need to understand is the simple fact that with this format, you can lose your first game and then play for a fricking draw in the second, putting hope and risk into the third exclusively. Think about it: teams need a draw and a loss after two games, no more. It doesn't make matchday three worse, it makes matchday two horrible.

As someone mostly immune to nostalgia, this Euros has been solidly middle of the pack.
Spain, Turkiye, Georgia, Austria, and Germany have all entertained. And if Spain win the Euros, it will be the greatest Euros run at all time!

As a portuguese, I must say... I enjoyed more watching Copa America with their entertaining football, more tecnical and less tactical. Europe has adopted this boring defensive game, especially the underdog teams, and it is annoying. Underdog teams always did play defensive football but never like this. Football needs some rule changes to prevent this 11 at the goal defensive style or else, no tournament will ever be fun to watch, this prevents any team to even try and make a play! Spain were the ONLY national team that actually managed to beat this park the bus style by tiki-taka around, but we all know that no other national team managed to replicate this play-style in many years. Kudos to spain tho, they were amazing to watch in this euro, deserved the title more than anyone else!

It’s interesting that this is a European perspective this summer. In Latin America, we compare the Euros to the shitshow that is copa America and wish we had the same quality and professionalism of that tournament
