For future reference for people who don't catch salmon often, you can tell a male through a female by looking at the jaw shape so you could tell its a female when catching it. Males develop a massive kype(the jaw changes shape). And the colored up fish aren't going to have the best quality of meat, especially the females. However the roe of brined correctly do make for an excellent caviar

Some people done realize how beautiful the country side of NewYork is . When people hear NY they automatically think of the city the lights and stores and busy everyday life . But upstate newyork ? Fuckin beautiful some places don’t even feel like it’s part of NY

As someone who recognizes those shelfs so well as I have fished them many times myself, I know the incredible feeling! Personally, early morning I find oswego below the damn best in the morning, and pulaski better later in the day as its deeper and a little more packed with fewer, but larger holes. However, pulaski has some monsters too! And the chaos in that particular spot is absurd, I am surprised you were there alone! But congratulations!!!

My first fishing trip ever was here people travel from all over to go salmon fishing there and gets pretty crazy in the colder months. Hopefully you were lucky enough to get to try some of the local smoked salmon..nice catch 👍

You’re supposed to cure the roe with salt water and marinate it in sousauce

We here on the coast boot those color of salmon back. We only keep ones that have chrome or white bellys to keep them, scales are a plus. That is a king salmon.
