Butterflies on Abelia Grandiflora

This Glossy Abelia attracts more than hummingbirds which it does very well. These are some of the butterflies that were on the shrub all at the same time. As a hummingbird attractant, it demands more respect than it gets as there are hummers on this plant constantly. As a member of the honeysuckle family, it produces it's share of sweets to attract these nectar feeders. This could also be why mockingbirds are a common sight in and on this plant.

Here, near the US/Canada PNW border, the Abelia is a great hummingbird feeder plant until the hard frosts in Oct or November stop it from blooming. The Anna's that overwinter here use it. Lightly scented, it is a wonderful plant in my mixed hedge. A much underrated shrub.
