Yeah, the powdered wigs and the art style of the time really tend to throw people off the age of the founders. A lot of the people complaining about the "old white men" who founded our country are OLDER than the founders were when they created our country.

0:50 -- John Adams was 41, George Washington was 44, Thomas Jefferson was 33 yrs old, and Madison was in his 20's. There were only a few old white men in that room in 1776, most were young or early middle aged. The only real old guy in there was Benjamin Franklin at 70 yrs old. And Benjamin was so cutting edge in his thinking, he technically shouldn't count. He was joining abolition societies against the continuation of Slavery in the 1780's in the first years of the country. That's not old school thinking, that's cutting edge for the times.

THIS is how to engage the high schoolers and college students!! I LOVE it!! I'm 24, and a staunch homeschooled conservative Christian, and it is _so hard_ to make anyone my age see beyond what they were taught in public school. _They see it as gospel!!!_ It's CRAZY how they don't even _think_ to think for themselves, don't even _think_ to go look up something like "the founding fathers were all old white men". I LOVE this approach of showing them that our country was founded by radical, excited youths just like them, who said "the way other people are doing this is sh!t, let's do it our own way! Radical freedom for all!" That's so powerful. Way to go, Isabel!

I think also the paintings showing them wearing powdered wigs, (which was the style at the time) contribute to the idea that they were really old.

I wouldn't say the US has "stood the test of time" yet, it's less than 300 years old! That's very young for a people and a country. I pray that Americans focus on their commonalities and shared culture, rather than obsessing over differences and divisions, else 300 years from now, the US may be taught as an example of a failed state that didn't survive.

The first thing that came to mind was that they were Protestant, which is a vitally important detail that has often been overlooked in recent times 🇺🇸
