Here’s my feedback:

PROS:
The staging is good, I love the use of minimal yet vibrant colors, the premise is interesting, and for a second time behind the camera, it’s noticeable that you are evolving.

CONS:
Sometime the camera quality comes off odd in some shots, the performances (while they are great) do come off at times a bit stilted, and sometimes it’s hard to hear what they’re saying.

But I get it, it’s a college thesis film, it’s not suppose to be on the levels of mainstream cinema. I perfectly understand; including the hassle of making a movie (since I released my own short back in May).

Overall, a pretty good short film. Keep up the work

The colours in this are absolutely gorgeous, they're so vibrant and they really add to the atmosphere of and ideas used in the piece!!!

I appreciate this; the Chris Farley joke lands well as an in-sync moment between the two. I definitely get a "hear my voice", the difference between listening and hearing someone. I'm not artistically trained to know what meaning colors have in conveying meaning, but I will say the transition to standard lighting at the end was pleasant, that's really all I can say of that without projecting (? I think that's the word I mean). The piece works well even without the video; I listened to this my first time, and watched it the second. Both left an impression on me.

In a way, I think it works as a statement on your own voice in your video-essays, hearing your voice and sharing your world, if only for a moment. You must have worked hard on this, and it shows. Thanks.

What stands out the most to me here is the writing. Even if the delivery is stilted a handful times the dialogue is written well enough that it doesn't hurt as much as it could. I'll use the R&B singer as an example. When the songwriter is pouring out her heart trying to get her to understand why it's so necessary to share her world. Her responses are written so disinterestedly thar the stilted delivery kinda helps emphasize that she is unwilling and unable to enphasize. Which reinforces the theme in an interesting way. It's interesting to see how your style is evolving.

i love the lighting, its not something i normally pay attention but the use of colors and shadows make the shots that much more dynamic. something about purple and blue lighting and pink shadows just feels so much more visually appealing than if it had been shot in a regular office space with normal lighting.
acting is solid, tells a story without too much hamming it up, pretty actresses :3 💖 💖
my only gripe is with the noticeable sound changes, like pops and stuff
either way 10/10 more content like this pls

I liked this a lot! The acting felt a bit spotty in a couple places but for the most part I think they did well enough to carry the emotion. Well maybe except for the singer but I feel like that was kind of intentional lol

The message behind the video is also very nice and got me to thinking about sampling in a slightly different way, so you succeeded in that department. I think the camera work was probably the highlight though, so props to Gavin Mealey.
This may be small, but keep it up Tariq! I honestly think you have a lot of potential in directing and I'd definitely check out anything you do in the future.

Great job. :)
I really liked the dialogue. It's interesting, I can kinda hear your voice in the dialogue, dunno if I am just used to your videos or if it's your distinct writing style I am picking up on. Either way, it was really good.
Really nice color work and shadows, I like the staging of the guy towering over her, slightly out of frame.
The acting was a bit stilted at moments, but it came and went, and wasn't too distracting. Looking forward to seeing more!

I love the sketch in the beginning on sampling and the part where she’s trying to express what she wants the singer to get across in the music. I only wish you had shown her actually singing her song, but it was a powerful ending

I like the muted 90's neon colors. Don't see that too often in films. Neon don't get enough love in films. "Poor Blade Runner 2049 a suprisingly good romp I'm glad I saw in theaters even if I didn't watch the 1st one until after it." The LaserDisc Director's Cut of course because I love them so.
