I am by no means an audiophile. I had no interest in speakers or home audio equipment, and yet I have binge watched this channel for 5 days now and feel quite comfortable that I could hold a conversation with any audiophile and at least fake it long enough to get a free second hand CD of their favorite unknown artist that they are dying to turn people on to.

I cannot judge the Ultras against the Primes, as I do not own, or have heard the Primes, but the Ultras that I do own are amazing. Having listened to them now for a reasonable length of time, I can honestly say they are the best speakers I have ever owned. That may not mean much, but for the first time I have experienced 'sound stage' and 'imaging' that you often describe, with these speakers. Thank you again for your reviews and recommendations. You have reawakened my music listening pleasure.

Great review! I'm a big SVS fan. I own a SB-3000 sub, Prime Bookshelf and Ultra Bookshelf speakers. I agree with your assessment of the differences between the Primes and the Ultras. I'm a (retired) drummer/percussionist. Drums/percussion are also my true test of a speakers capabilities. Cymbals generate extremely complex sounds and dynamics, and are really challenging for a speaker to reproduce. Like you said, knowing what cymbals SHOULD sound like is very advantageous when evaluating speakers. The SVS Ultras do it very well. Full disclosure: I recently switched out my SVS Ultras (in my home office) for the Harbeth P3 ESR XD bookshelf speakers. The realism of vocals and instruments will blow you away! However, at a price tag of $3, 300 per pair, they are not a good candidate for the "cheap audio man". But, if you ever get a chance to hear them, do it!

I finally bought the Ultra’s mate. Thanks for your expert advice. Your right about Matalica on them with snare. So clear like it’s incredible. Love these speakers. Got them in my theater room and I’m having a ball mate cheers .

Yo! Since you've been a consistent inspiration for me, I've recently gifted both my brothers a pair of sscs5s and a ayima t9 amp. I've obtained a130s, sscs5s, svs primes and stage a190s. I took your bookshelf's are better than towers to heart and will continue to expand the collection. I love swapping out different sets in different rooms etc...thanks for the passion for music and listening

Great break down!! Makes me want to try some ultras out. I have some primes and love them, they’re hard to beat. Love your approach and honesty in this audio environment, things can get snobby fast! Thanks for being down to earth and real world!

I love my Ultras. I've had them for a year now. Bought them because of this guy Cheapaudioman, and a couple of other guys.

Have you ever considered creating alter egos midrangeaudioman and expensiveaudioman? Your reviews are the best! Not that I'm sucking up or anything. I'll go get my coffee.

Tool's Eulogy-- plinking sounds at the beginning are Adam picking behind the bridge. The wanh-wanh sound is Maynard singing through a megaphone with the bell removed into the mic while keying it to the rhythm.

At 15:22, the word you might be looking for what you are describing is the "transients" of the treble notes. Great review, keep up the good work!
