That's not an RC car. It's a tether car at Whittier Narrows, South El Monte California. They are extremely fast, but no radio. Fun to watch. There's a full fence around the track for safety.

Used to have one like this but it was a motorcycle crotch rocket like a ninja and also had a P-51 mustang airplane that would do this with the string

Cable cars aka tether cars’ heyday was in the 50s and 60s before radio control took over. The guy in the middle isn’t keeping it on the track, he’s just helping to get it going, he hops up on a round plate above a rotating cable attachment at the bottom of the the pole. Anyway these babies were going well over 150mph even in the 1960s.
