This song is truly haunting, especially because it's the only song in the whole show that directly ties to Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. All the other songs are deeply and intricately interconnected, but this is the only hint we get to the end of the musical.

I love this song so much, primarily because of how true it is. Every mistake we make, every action we take, history records and has its eyes on each and every one of us. Washington led his men straight into a massacre at Fort Necessity by attacking the French. History recorded that and, even now, almost 160 years later, it has never forgotten it. History will always have its eyes on us.

I relate to this on a personal level. In the Marine Corps my Maj took me under his wing, he kept me close because "my mind was sharp as a knife". It wasn't until I spoke to him in a casual setting why he put so much pressure on me. I reminded him a lot of himself, he didn't want me to go down the same mistakes.
