The first swarm we got to capture this year was one of our own. We almost missed this one since my dad doesn't have any swarm traps set up around his place.

Congratulatioins on the new hive.
I love the way your dad wanted us to understand that he wasn't lucky, but "Blessed".

Now that I've re-homed one of my nuc hives, I can use that nuc hive as a swarm trap when Spring gets here. I'll be putting a couple of swarm traps up around the place and maybe even a couple on the new block of land that I bought.

WHEW! that was a close call.
Glad to see your dad got them corralled up. Would have been a shame to loose that swarm.... unless they ended up on some piece of property outside of Poplarville. LMAO
Take care

Awesome channel, I subscribed a while back. I don't know how you do what you do, but keep it up! How many hives do you have?

if you'll put a frame of eggs or brood, they will be more likely to stay in the box.  You can also put a queen excluder between the box and the bottom board to keep the queen from trying to leave.

If you catch a swarm like that but don't find and cage the queen, can you just close up the box for a day or so to keep them from re-swarming to another place?

I'am running round today like a father with a new child, I haven't seen any honey bee's out in the wild other than mine, guess the winter bee's died off. Today i caught my 1st swarm of 20114 a small swarm of new born honey bee's out of 5 traps i set, they scouted all the traps and ended up in a 5 frame nuc box in a tree, the hi winds and threat of storms my not got them all. My take 3 days to get the whole swarm, rite now there about 1000 bee's in the small swarm, went out to look b4 dark and they closed the hole up! So i got her and a few workers, tomorrow they will hit the nuc hard = )

queen lure is better than lemon grass oil, but it does work! I love it when they swarm in the box and not in tree ect

Dont know if it was you that said it or who but I heard somewhere that when a bee "twerks" or shakes like that, its the bee trying to get the other bees attention and announcing a new food or water source or etc. Is that true?

I use a queen excluder screwed to the bottom of the box. Keep the queen there till shes at home

What if you put a queen excluder on the entrance of the new swarm capture for a couple or three days ?

Where are you located in the U.S.? I'm new to beekeeping and am trying to catch a swarm this year and am wondering when they will start swarming in my area. I'm in east central AL.

I'm wanting to get into beekeeping and I'm trying to learn just about everything there is to know to help me get started and I was wondering what was the comment about the lemongrass?

I'm not a bee keeper,   but when bees find they're way inside my window pane,   if they are docile enouph,   I'll my finger out,   let them crawl on and take it outside .  Never got stung doing it .
