Reading's City Park Fallout Shelter | STRANGER BERKS

Reading's City Park Fallout Shelter has long been the subject of mystery. The shelter's entrance is located along Constitution Boulevard, directly next to the city's greenhouse. The doors have been locked tight for the past few decades. A relic of an era when the ever present threat of nuclear annihilation swept our nation; perhaps you are amongst those who have wondered about its story.

I wonder what the rest of the people in Reading would do in the case of a nuclear bomb. As usual, we poor folk are left behind. Thanks for another great video.

Awesome video! I have always wanted to know more info on the shelter but didn’t know where to find it. They should keep it a fallout shelter because you never know. You should do a video on the buildings on Penn St. that were “Founded”. They were here before the “mud flood”. There are other building through out the city that are super old that were here way before the mud flood. You can usually tell them apart from other buildings because the first floor windows are usually covered partially by the sidewalk. Some have windows and doors in their basements that were the original front doors and front windows for the first floor but were covered by the mud flood. If you’ve never heard of the mud flood you should look into it. Have you heard the rumor that there a secret underground tunnels under reading that connect all the buildings to one another. I was told a lot of the row homes have them too!

Cool channel. No connection to the area but love this type of stuff being preserved.

I really like the idea of preserving it as a museum especially during ww2 weekend. Thats a really good idea. Maybe keep it open year round and do tours?

Looks like it would be a pretty good fallout shelter as long as it was stocked with water and some small amount of supplies and someone to maintain it. I never quite understood how public fallout shelters that were stocked with supplies were supposed to be open to the public without someone just robbing them constantly. And if you keep it locked until it's needed ... that might not work out too well. But better than nothing if you need to keep out of the fallout for up to two weeks. Also, keep in mind, it's a FALLOUT shelter. It's not a bomb shelter. If a bomb hits very nearby, this might not have helped a bit because it might be gone.

I guess the $40k to renovate it didn’t include a few dehumidifier’s
