If you cant hit an opponent in fencing with an direct attack, you could use a feint to get what you want. And it actually doesn't matter if you doing Olympic foil fencing, military sabre in HEMA or historical fencing or stick fighting martial arts like arnis or kali, even boxing uses feints!
