Flag-raising debate grows ahead of Remembrance Day

When is the right time to raise Canadian flags, flying at half-mast in honour of Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools?

On Remembrance Day, the flags are set to return to the top of flagpoles, only to be lowered in honor of war veterans. Some Indigenous leaders want to see that move repeated in remembrance of unmarked graves. As Abigail Bimman explains, the prime minister hasn’t offered a clear path forward.

After the last 6 months, I am starting to think that Canada can't get it up anymore. There isn't any medication that is going to fix this one.

Raise our flags. Our pathetic leaders are only creating more division.

Cancel the people involved in the Residential schools not the ones that risked their lives for Canada. How about the 66, 755 that died from defending Canada?

I'm getting sick of Indian privilege. Our military gave our life for us.

Put the flag back up. Keep working on reconciliation. The flag is supposed to be for every Canadian, not some of them.

Instead of actually solving problems or holding politicans accountable this is what the media puts out. Its ridiculous.

Might as well just leave it at half mast its been that way for so long that it has lost all meaning

Why is this even a debate? isn’t the prevention of (any?) sort of cultural genocide a big part of the reason we remember and respect our heroic military?

Why did these men die fighting people who thought they were "doing the right thing" when 80 years later we allow it on our own soil?

Give me a back. No one's offended by the raising the Canadian flag. Such propaganda and ginned up anti-canadian messaging right here.

They already have their day. Sept 30th. How unpatriotic is that to question whether or not we SHOULD be raising our flag to commemorate the fallen men and women who gave THEIR BLOOD for this country. 😤. Shameful

And yet they all gladly accept huge substities from the governnent. They never have to work a day in their lives.

Give me a break. Raise the flag. Not everything is about indigenous. This is just going to make people fill with anger and intolerance.

Remembrance day has its meaning, indigenous day has its meaning are we going to combine indigenous into everything now? There is no debate.

Perhaps we should find those that suffered in orphanages thru -out the country that lived in very similar conditions.
I had an uncle thru marriage that first lived in an orphanage in the 1920's and was adopted out to a farmer that didn't
even send him to school and he worked on the farm as basically slave labour until he was old enough to leave.
In fact, there were 100's of thousands of Canadians living in horrible conditions and extreme poverty during that
time period. How many times must we pay out since this is at least the second pay out or how many generations are required to wipe history clean. Did the indigenous people want traditional funeral ceremonies which could involve
burning the bodies or having animals and birds eat the bodies with only word of mouth of that persons existence,
usually lost within one or two generations? Send the dupe Trudeau back to school to learn some" Canadian History".

After Remembrance Day the the Canadian flag should be raised, and stay raised. Should the Native Canadians wish to half mast their flags so be it. This is my Country, and as a Veteran who served 35 years let’s stop cowing down to the Indigenous people with money, and help that they are always wasting, and the rest of Canadians go without.
