OK I want to just put it out there..I commend you, and respect that you didn’t interrupt every five seconds, like most coaches or people in the music industry do . you took your time not pausing the video instead you edit it afterwards so we can know what you were feeling instead of having to stop every 20 seconds. That’s why I am now a new subscriber thank you for making this video worth it great reaction.

You got ‘Mitch slapped’ - it’s what we call it when people first hear Mitch (in the hat) sing. 😀

Great reaction. Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. Give a listen to some of their new stuff, too. I highly recommend their cover of Mad World.

Welcome to the world of PTX! If you do Sound of Silence next, you'll notice the bass singer changed. The bass in this video, Avi, left the group in 2017 and was replaced by Matt but the other four members have not changed, although Mitch (countertenor) changes looks frequently and you may not recognize him. I do highly recommend Sound of Silence but also recommend Daft Punk (one of their 3 Grammy's) but you can't go wrong with whatever you pick.

'The Best Of PTX' ... imo:
"Mary Did You Know?" - rich, gorgeous harmonies; beautifully done verses (each one is done as a solo, & they *all* get their piece, including Kevin the beat-boxer!); and the visual presentation is both simple and powerful!
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - an *amazing* rendition of this challenging and delightful song ... it's obvious that they put a ton of effort into the video, but you really feel that they enjoyed doing it!
"Sound Of Silence" - an *amazing* performance of a wonderful classic with such a powerful message, presented simply so that you focus on the song and their performance of it!
"Say Something" - their beautiful rendition of a very good and very popular 'pop' song raises it to a whole other level! This intricately arranged and presented performance is almost *literally* mesmerizing, with layering that rewards repeated viewing (plus you get to experience Kevin *both* beat-boxing *and* playing the cello - which he does *so* well!)
IMO, these four - along with "Hallelujah" - are their best! But they do have *plenty* of other great performances!
*Enjoy!*
P.S.- The group 'Home Free' is another amazing a cappella 5-some! Their performance of "How Great Thou Art" is a stunning tour-de-force of beautiful sounds *and* visuals! I think I can guarantee that you'll *really* enjoy it!

I really love that she has written comments and doesn’t interrupt the video to comment.

Of all the reaction vids I have viewed yours is by far the best and most professional breakdown and critique of the song I've heard. The song is a fabulous classic and when Pentatonix covers it, it is very emotional and I just get lost in it. Individually, their voices are unique; when they come together in harmony, it's mind-blowing.

Their harmonies are beautiful!! My favorite song of this group is “Mary did you know” is more like a Christmas song but very beautiful

Pentatonix - three-time Grammy winning group. Best a cappella group in the world in my opinion.

Thank you for the great reaction. Pentatonix is amazing. Many of the "Vocal Coaches" do reactions to their songs and give a very technical breakdown of how they achieve their "sound". It is true that they are all talented singers. But in my opinion it is in their "backstory" where the true magic lies. Scott, Mitch and Kirstin all grew up together in Texas and have been singing together since they were 8 to 10 years old. They have a lot of practice together and have become best friends to each other. But that friendship turned to LOVE and that is where the magic comes from. They know each other on a very deep level and the arrangements of their songs are specifically made to take advantage of this fact. Their harmonies are legendary. I hope you continue to react to their large body of work. Thanks again.

That last note always gets me. Huge old Pipe Organ in a giant cathedral. :) MOST of what they do is acapella but there are songs where their beatboxer, Kevin, also plays cello. They also have collaborated with other performers, including with Lindsey Stirling a couple of times. Lindsey is a violinist and she can dance at the same time as she plays. She's awesome on her own, too but for me the collab covering Radioactive was golden. <3

I love that you react with text during the song, instead of interrupting all the time! And give your spoken reaction at the end.

I’ve watched this hundreds of times and still get goosebumps. There are so many more of theirs that you should watch.

the bass belongs to the incredibly sexy bass avi the one with the long hair and beard. listen to his solo work it is unreal . his voice is very rich..and goes from a warm melted honey to a deep whisky soaked bass.

As of July 2024 there have been 746M views of the Pentatonix official video of this song on YouTube. 😊
The more I watch this reaction/analysis the more impressed I am. I love how she tries to hide her feelings but her face is a masterpiece of restrained emotions.
