• The glitchy effect reflects doubt, only happens when Luz and Belos are onscreen.

• Belos is the only character that doesn't get an art style change.

• Flapjack (Little Rascal) is the main plot point outside of Hunter's conflicting thought.

• Flapjack supports Hunter being the Golden Guard because that's what how he feels he is and what he'll ever be. Palisman bond with emotion, after all.

• I headcanon Lilith to see Hunter as someone who needed help but refused until he snapped. Then she changed her mind. Same with Kikimora, but she goes insane.

This shows how much pressure Hunter is really under. I feel like he will play a very big role later on. I just want to say though, Leo Valdez is also another really great character who has tons of pressure put upon him. The fact that he hasn't snapped is quite impressive.

Also, my theory:
I think that the art styles show how much trust Hunter has in each of them. The part with Lilith it says 'admiration', and when the style changes it says 'traitor'; the same goes with Luz. And it also says in the desc that Belos is the only one who's style doesn't change, so I think that's interesting.

On another note, I wonder if Dana knew when she made Hunter how the entire fandom would IMMEDIATELY grasp his complex character, the curious, concerned, caring teenager (which you SHOULD be as a kid & teen, young, joyful, still learning) who wants so desperately to please and be accepted, has so much pressure, expectation and conditional love thrust upon him in a literal militant environment where he has to train his body and fight the way only a 20 something should, not a 16 year old, and if she knew how the fandom would immediately just adopt him as their son/kin. I mean my god, this boy. 😭💖

I love the implication that he is running out of time after Hollow Mind. Every Golden Guard has an expiration date and while doubling down on his loyalties gives him more time, it's only ever a little

It tells the story of duty bound hunter, lucky to be alive, aiming to do good, the people who could be on his side he can't have on his side, those on his side are against him or using him as a puppet, the one friend that is unconditionally on his side he must hide and protect, Luz calling out to him, him saying he must return, Lilith being the closest to what he currently is now free as a traitor...

Regarding the changes of the style drawing, I suppose it is because of how Hunter is feeling, for example, the fact that it is colored at the end, denotes all the confidence and determination that he feels, but when the lines are irregular and white and the background black It's because of all the fear and despair that he feels
