Let’s say your Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7-series is starting to feel a little bit ordinary, there are too many Bentleys at the country club, what do you do? You commission a Rolls Royce.

Even though the Ghost is technically the entry-level Rolls Royce, it is just absolutely phenomenal. The new Ghost is completely updated, with only the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament and umbrellas found in the doors carried over from the first generation. You easily can option a Ghost to over $400,000, and while that is a staggering amount of money, to the target customer this level of luxury, refinement, isolation and attention to detail is absolutely worth it.

The new Ghost Illuminated Fascia is one of the most unique and detailed touches in any vehicle ever. It took over 2 years and 10,000+ hours to develop, composed of over 850 “stars” shining through the passenger side dashboard. The “GHOST” lettering is actually formed by more than 90,000 laser etched dots across the surface.

Even though this was not a Black Badge model, I was extremely impressed with how well it drove, handling its size and weight in all sorts of driving situations. Even though it is nearly 3 tons, we have a near 50/50 weight distribution and rear wheel steering. The remarkable planar suspension technology also ensures the Ghost is always composed and comfortable. The body is always kept level, we have the world’s first upper wishbone dampers, plus cameras that scan the road and prepare the suspension and a satellite aided transmission to ensure it is always in the right gear for upcoming turns. Smooth is an understatement, the Ghost simply wafts along.

The isolation from the outside world is remarkable, thanks to over 100kg of acoustic damping materials. The obsession with eliminating unacceptable noise even extends to polishing the inside of the air conditioning ducting to reduce wind noise. During development, it was found that the vehicle was actually too quiet, which was disorientating to occupants. So they created a “whisper”, a soft undertone where components in the car share a common resonate frequency.

After spending a week living with the Rolls Royce Ghost, I was absolutely in love. How could I not be? The most relaxing and serene daily driver you can imagine, fantastic to drive and be driven in. It draws attention, but in a classy and elegant way. And if you are commissioning one of these, the bespoke options are seemingly endless.

I drive a Ghost a number of years ago and the chrome around the ceiling controls was plastichrome and felt super cheap. The Phantom is the way to go.

It's an impressive car and that Spirit of Ecstasy is hard to beat. However, the door mirrors are horrendous, awfully large, better suited to a truck.

This car is beautiful, but at the same time its way overrated.. I don't see what the fuss is all about ...people worship Rolls-Royce like its a god of some sort ...Mercedes-Benz S Class and bmw 7 series have way better technology than Rolls-Royce
