I’m curious, what are the possible applications for strain gauges? They measure the change in resistance due to mechanical strain on the object, and therefore can be used to calculate force. The first downside I can see is that the size needs to be either very accurate to the person’s hand size, or have the size vary with quite a bit of necessary calibrations to get accurate movements. However, they are quite cheap and if you set it up right with a gauge on each finger and hand joint, you can make very life-like movements when in VR.

Using flex sensors would be much cheaper and easier. And it would be small enough to fit in a glove.
