Wednesday 7am update: Major Hurricane Laura heads for Louisiana-Texas border

Major Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border very early Thursday but the effects will be felt starting Wednesday night.

Hurricane Laura rapidly strengthened overnight over warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and intensifying to a Category 3 hurricane by Wednesday morning.

Forecasters expect Laura to become a "catastrophic" Category 4 hurricane before landfall somewhere near the Texas-Louisiana border. As of 7 a.m., the National Hurricane Center said Laura's maximum sustained winds are near 115 mph with higher gusts.
