Children of Dune (2003) - 'Summon the Worms' scene [1080p]

The visual effects in this TV mini-series were painfully bad, even for their time, and hopefully these images will be wiped away by the dunes and worms we see in the upcoming film version. The music, however, was very notable, and introduced many of us to the shining new talent of Brian Tyler, who since then has become a major film composer.

Starring James McAvoy, Susan Sarandon, P. H. Moriarty, Alec Newman and Julie Cox. Based on the book by Frank Herbert, and directed by Greg Yaitanes. Music by Brian Tyler.

everyone is arguing about the special effects and the quality or lack thereof and not how james mcavoy is selling the whole scene putting his entire mcavussy into making the entire funky environment believable

Mcavoy’s acting completely makes up for the cheesiness of the effects

First time I saw James McAvoy….just ‘Knew’ he’d do well in the coming years. Kept my eyes peeled. Grateful I have the CDs. Not a bad effort by the studios here.

The visual effects of this movie is on par with Command & Conquer and Red Alert's cutscenes.

I don't think these effects were painfully bad. Remember, this was a miniseries done before the Age of the Miniseries started with Battlestar Galactica. Yes, it wasn't movie-level special effects, but the effects, in 2003, were some of the best special effects ever seen on the TV screen, and they did an amazing job of telling the story well, and putting the needed effects in.

This series won Outstanding Special Effects award in the 2003 Emmys. How old are you?

I can't wait for them to attempt to make Emperor into a film. 2 hours of pretty much nothing happening other than Moneo saying, 'My Lord' to a giant worm man.

In the 2000's, actor James McAvoy looked younger

Director: Okay, Brian, we've got an all-star cast with Susan Sarandon, Alec Newman, Alice Krieg, and P.H. Moriarty. The soundtrack doesn't have to be too amazing.
Brian Tyler: Holy my baliset.

It has a particular vibe and if you look past some of the 90's silhouettes and terrible visual effects it's actually quite decent.

Man, Villeneuve really got that de-aging of McAvoy right

Fun fact: Two Charles Xavier actors are in part of Dune franchise. James MacAvoy played Leto 2. Patrick Stewart portrayed Gurney Halleck. Also, Josh Brolin (Cable or Thanos) portrayed Gurney in the 2021 film.

Man if only McAvoy is still young enough to portray Paul Atreides.
