Hey guys !
I can relate to this video. I was not very good at school either. I used to keep my grades around the minimum required (10/20 or so...) and I have even been told by the principal that I will never become a pilot... Well guess what ? I will start flying the 737 around Europe in the next couple months !
Flight training has nothing to do with high school or college, it's a totally different world ! All the subjects you will be studying don't require any background knowledge from high school except bacic physics and english of course ! In high school I had troubles to find the motivation to start doing my homework, in flight school I had troubles to stop doing them and chill... As Mentour said, it's all about motivation !
My advice is to never give up and don't let anyone tell you that you are not good enough. Success is inevitable as long as you work hard and never give up on your dreams !

My teacher in elementary school told my parents I would never become a pilot and in high school they told me the same thing. I studied all summer working on mathematics and physics and will start pilot training this friday. Don't give up!

Well said. To be honest, I flunked school completely. Not trying to make excuses but I suffered with mental health issues for quite a few years (social anxiety mainly). Which ruined everything for me. I was someone my school 'wrote off'... Well fast forward four years; I'm a private pilot and currently excelling in the instrument rating. Never give up and WORK HARD! Best part of all? It's not much work when you're doing something you absolutely love. Keep the dream alive!

You said that you don't make it easier for us to become pilots. But this is not true because you do make it easier providing us with all that useful information you are our "flight instructor" and thank you very much for all you have done for us.

I hope for you the best in your career and your life.

Hey Mentour, you are describing exactly what I needed to hear 2 years ago. I kind of gave up on my dream (which isn't just a "that would be cool"-dream but more of a "life becomes meaningless if I don't achieve this goal"-dream. I wasn't good at maths, I wasn't good at physics, and most certainly not at chemistry. The financial aspect of my dream looked impossible to achieve as well. It didn't look good. I started middle school very young, as I had passed a year in elementary school, so I didn't do a lot in school (in the years before I didn't really have to either). I failed my exams, which is something I saw coming and wasn't really shocked or sad about since I was still a year or more younger than the others. I re-did the exams this year and passed. Excellent score on maths, physics and the others (not that important). I was through the roof about passing, but still had no clue how to proceed in life, since I "only" got my diploma and not a bag with money. Sad life. Then, after having lots of conversations with people around me, including pilots, I saw that I didn't have to be a pilot RIGHT NOW. I always imagined myself becoming pilot as soon as possible, but I just kind of shove that away. Since I was 3, I loved trains as well. I will be starting the training to become a train driver somewhere in 2016. I still love that job, planning on working voor the Dutch Railways for a year or 3 and after that, finally with my bag of money, attending a flight school and fulfilling my life-long dream.

Like you said in the video: find your ways of achieving your goal. Well, here's mine. :)

hello MenTour! This time i really want to thank you because this is not a very easy period of my life as I started to think I will never be a pilot (mainly because of financial situation), and any time I watch and hear this words from someone who succeeded in his goals, as you did, hope comes back and I feel like I can really do that, even if it is almost impossible for me. I don't wanna live with the regret that I didn't try: It's better to try and not to succeed than not trying at all. So (maybe this post is gonna be a bit long) perhaps you don't know it but your job on YT is actually helping quite a lot to make a difference in my life: THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH!keep on the AWESOME job and see you in the next podcast!

Hi Mentour!

I really enjoy and appreciate all your videos, but this one is my favourite one you've uploaded. There's a lot of great advice here for getting into a flying school, or reaching whatever your dream is. It's also great hearing this from someone who is there already and gone through the grind to get there.

I hope you continue to make videos of this type, along with the others. I think these life advice videos are what make your channel unique and special :)

I'm in 3rd year aerospace engineering now but flying is the dream, always has been since I've been 4. Will be going to do a 10 week PPL course from mid November with an Australian regional airline flight school. If I do well in the PPL course I'll be offered a full Cadetship with them to come back and do after completing my eng degree, plus 7 years employment on the Saab 340 (their only type). Just want to say your videos keep me motivated to keep working hard at my degree, even though it's not a direct path to flying.

I Love your videos and you are really helping me to achieve my goal to be an Airline pilot. I'm mediocre in school but my "friends" are telling me that not everyone can be a pilot and that I should stop trying, maybe the are just jealous cause they don't have a dream. But I will always try to make my dream come true!

Another great video mentour, I can relate a lot to this, I'm currently doing my ATPLs (next week actually) 😨 and I'm working around the clock and also around work and other things, I want to become a pilot so bad, it's what i have always wanted to do and as you say I find that the harder I work and more time I put into the studies, the higher my mark get in practice exams, which builds confidence, but your videos are an amazing way to relax in the middle of the study, keep up the good work.
