Those 22 people each acquired approximately 1% for their $50, 000.

That 1% is now worth $11billion.

I remember in 1996 or 1997 when I was at University back in Europe and the internet was just starting. I was looking for a music CD of milla jovovich. I could not find it anywhere but online at this store called Amazon located in US. The only problem, I had no credit card to pay. So I put the right amount of dollars I exchanged at local bank and some extra for shipping in a letter I wrote and send it to the Amazon address. I thought letter will probably get lost or rejected, but it was worth a shot to me. I really wanted that CD. And to my surprise I received a month or so later to my address the CD. Looking back I am now sure Bezos probably handled my order personally and likely even dropped it off in mail personally. He is knows to have been personaly dropping off packages at the posts in those early years. I was really impressed at that time with his business and today I live in US and buy most of things from Amazon. I only wish I would have put some money in his stock, because I knew all the time, long before most people did, from this personal experience that they are a great business with a great future.

My finance professor, Gary Tsarsis (wall street banker), told us his side of the story when he was working on Amazons IPO and helping him raise capital. This is exactly what he told us. He said him and his team looked at bezos like he was crazy. The "internet"? To sell books? This guy is crazy, i can just walk to the local barnes & nobles. Anyway, my professor went on to help bezos raise capital within a relatively short amount of time, and he had to convince every single one of them that the Internet is the future. Now Amazon moves the world. "There are some people in this world who can see 20 years ahead of time, and then theres everyone else who can only see tomorrow" - Gary Tsarsis

The riskiest moment for Amazon was buying the rights to Certain parts of the LotR stories.

Not gonna lie if he approached me with this idea in 1995 I would have been ver skeptical. Back then if you wanted a book you went to the bookstore and it was actually a great experience

That last sentence realllyyyy puts it into perspective… if you want to be rich in the future, you have to be working on something right now where even investors say “what’s the ____” your outlook has to be so ahead. It shouldn’t be a Google search away where there’s a “top 10 trends for the future”

Everyone talking about the 22 people in the comments that invested but no one talking about the 38 that didn’t. 🤧😅

I remember in the beginning when I would buy books off Amazon and everything else on eBay.

This is why it’s invaluable to be able to transpose and translate data to people. If they can’t understand it, it doesn’t matter how good your idea is or will be.

Wow amazing story. Why they don't share these stories in economics class so young adults can learn about the real business world.

I don't know much about bezo's but how quickly he turned that comment around. That's something the media won't talk about. Everything he has now is because of that and he made sure to acknowledge the risk they took. Without a second thought.

I look this up- With Amazon ending the previous week at $123.53, it means a $10, 000 investment a little over 25 years ago would now be worth (get this...) $16, 454, 196. For those of you keeping score at home, we're talking about an aggregate return of 164, 607%, or an average annual return of around 34% for a quarter of a century.
