Bullying in Japanese schools

In Japan, a survey earlier this year by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications showed that some schools chose not to recognise cases of bullying but saw them as "mere squabbles" between students. Channel NewsAsia's Wei Du talked to some of the victims to find out more.

They hated and bullied the Karate champion boy because he was handsome and strong. Bullying is caused by something as pathetic as jealousy.

I’m a Japanese man. I went to Japanese schools my entire life. And I just want to say that the way this country handles bullying is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.
One kid was teasing me countless times in elementary school. And eventually I couldn’t take it anymore and punched him in the face. Later that day, the teacher called me and yelled at me for punching him, while the teaser got of scot-free🤦‍♂️

The Japanese don't like rudeness, but bullying is very rude. They're being hypocritical and they should do something about that.

those parents are so brave, trying to turn their child's death into something good by campaigning against bullies

Those teachers should report and punish those students or call the police and throw them into jail to teach them some manners. Turning a blind eye for the ones who needs you is just so wrong.

My mom always tells me to NEVER EVER put my head down when someone humiliates me! Everything has limits, nobody has ever bullied me because I NEVER accepted that it happens...And if I see someone bullying someone for sure I will defend that person

At age 13!? That’s young for someone to take their own life! I hope his parents are ok!❤️ Alongside with the others kids!

Being a student in Japan is like a curse, I was bullied by a girl bc I wear glasses and she kicked my face and the pieces of glass went to my right eye and now I'm blind in my right eye.

There used to be one boy who was ways bullied back when I was in middle school. Everytime the bullies try to mess with him, I always prevent them from continuing, and I encouraged him to speak up, but he was always too scared. I think that bullying isn't as easy to overcome and I think teachers must take bullying as one of the top priorities beside education, because if someone gets bullied, they will get hurt mentally and it might ruin their lives.

When I was 6 years old, I came home crying every day because of the same kid picking on me, the teacher did absolutely nothing and blamed me...I came home with pneumonia and I lived across the street from the school. My mom and grandma dealt with the teacher and the principal, I ended up being tutored at Kumon until I moved to Canada. Back then, the teachers hit kids too on the hand

2:27 The mother's self-restraint in her wording is insane. If I were her, I'd be saying far more vile things about the teacher.
