I generally prefer dumbbells because i usually don’t have a spotter and I’m much more willing to push to failure with the dumbbells that I can just drop

I reccomend you do both. Its way easier to setup with heavy barbell than like 50 kg dumbell and quite safe if you do it the proper way

Personally I do barbell flat bench and then dumbbell incline bench

I agree 100%. Every single time I try to use a barbell my shoulder will hurt for 2-3 days. Dumbbells are king!

Yep just tore my pec doing an ego barbell bench press. No more just dumbbells and Smith press for now on

EXACTLY. Nobody wants to let go of the bar because lets not kid ourselves, it looks pretty sick. However, you can bring the elbows deeper which places more load on the chest and the elbows can be brought in instead of being at a flat angle with the bar.

Then it trains stabilizers too. After only training with dumbbells since I started a year ago I surprised myself at how strong I was using a straight bar…

… I also hurt my shoulder too 😂

I do both. I just get a different feeling from each. I think the problem with barbell bench press is really only the ego aspect. Load up too heavy on dumbbells it’s easy to dump. Load up too heavy on barbell and you’ve probably got some issues especially if you don’t have a spotter.

Yup! That's what I have stuck with. Dumbbells seems best. I have had shoulder problems & dumbbells seem less risk when it comes to reinjuring the shoulder

I only do dumbbell presses because they target a lot more of the pecs than the barbell bench press. Dumbbell presses also help improve your sticky spots and build up those weaker areas of the chest.

Yes, with dumbbells each arm works equally and your wrist angle can change; it's not locked on the barbell.
