We are delighted to welcome I CAN, the children’s communication charity who will give a comprehensive introduction to speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
With 10% of all children having long-term SLCN that they won’t grow out of and approximately 7.6% having DLD, teachers need to know about the condition that affects around 2 or 3 children in every classroom. The webinar will define SLCN and DLD, explore how affected children and young people might present in the classroom, and signpost teachers to further resources where they can find more information and support.
This webinar aims to:
1) Define DLD within the wider context of SLCN.
2) Understand the scale of the problem and the likely numbers of children and young people with SLCN and DLD in your schools.
3) Introduce some key indicators of possible SLCN including DLD.
4) Signpost teachers to resources they can access to support learners with DLD including the DLD guide and the WSS DLD webinar series.
5) Explore possible impacts of COVID-19 on language development, and what support teachers can put in place to help affected children catch up.
